Two cases of norovirus confirmed in Kerala

Kerala, Thiruvananthapuram: Two confirmed cases of norovirus in Kerala’s Vizhinjam have created a stir after Holi, though state Health Minister Veena George said there was no need to worry. The health department has assessed the situation. Tests have been done by taking samples from the area and the action to deal with it has been intensified. The condition of both the children is stable. The Health Minister said that there is no need to worry at the moment, but everyone should be careful and maintain cleanliness. Significantly, eight students of a government upper primary school at Kayamkulam in Kerala’s Alappuzha district were admitted to the hospital after they complained of uneasiness due to a suspected case of food poisoning, following which the infection was detected in two children. According to the Health Minister, the infection of this virus can be got rid of soon. Norovirus causes gastrointestinal illness, causing inflammation of the lining of the stomach and intestines, severe vomiting and diarrhea.
