New Delhi: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has decided to increase the pension of former Indian cricketers (men and women) and match officials. This announcement was made by BCCI Secretary Jay Shah. He said that about 900 men and women cricketers besides the match officials will also benefit from this of former cricketers. He said on his official Twitter handle – I am extremely happy to announce the increase of the monthly pension of former cricketers and match officials. About 900 people will benefit from this. Out of those who are getting pension, about 75 percent of the employees will be able to take the benefit of 100 percent pension increase. The players who were getting 15 thousand rupees as pension, they will now get 30 thousand rupees.
At the same time, former cricketers who get pension of 22 thousand 500 rupees will get 45 thousand rupees monthly. Similarly, the pension of sportspersons and officials receiving monthly pension of every category has been increased. Those who used to get 30 thousand rupees till now, they will get 52 thousand rupees from now. At the same time, former players who got Rs 37,500 will now get Rs 60,000. Those with a pension of 50 thousand rupees will get 70 thousand rupees. In this context, BCCI President Sourav Ganguly said – It is very important that we take care of the financial condition of our former cricketers. It is our responsibility as the board to take care of him post retirement. At the same time, umpires are like unsung heroes and BCCI understands their contribution.
