Maharashtra, Mumbai The police have got a big success in the Naxal-affected Gadchiroli district of Maharashtra. 26 Naxalites have been killed in an encounter by the C-60 unit of Maharashtra Police in Gyarapatti forest. Three jawans were also injured in the encounter. Gadchiroli SP Ankit Goyal has confirmed this. Located on the border of Chhattisgarh, the spot is 900 km from Mumbai.
SP Ankit Goyal said that till now we have recovered the bodies of 26 Naxalites from the forest. Efforts are on to identify the slain Maoists. According to sources, their top commander is also included in the slain terrorists. The encounter took place in Dhanora, located in the forest area of Gyarapatti, when the police team was conducting a search operation. He said that the Naxalites started firing on seeing the commandos.
They fled towards the forest after the security forces retaliated. The encounter started in the morning near Mardintola village, the officer said. The three injured policemen were airlifted to Nagpur for treatment. He told that the commando team of the police had received information that some Naxalites were going to Gadchiroli from the forests of Chhattisgarh.
