Number of one horned rhinoceros in Pabitra sanctuary 107

Assam, Guwahati: There is good news for the nature and wildlife lovers of Assam. The number of 107 one-horned rhinos has been recorded in the Pabitra Wildlife Sanctuary, spread over an area of ​​38.81 sq.km. In the census conducted in the last two days, the presence of 107 rhinos has been recorded in the sanctuary as compared to 102 recorded in the year 2018. The entire wildlife sanctuary was divided into nine blocks for counting rhinos, in which 11 enumerators and 9 observers from different organizations were deployed over two days.

107 rhinos were counted in Pabitra, which includes 30 males, 50 females and 27 calves. The fresh count has increased by 5 animals. Notably, no poaching incident has been reported from Pabitra Wildlife Sanctuary since 2014. It is worth noting that the sanctuary is home to one-horned rhinoceros.

A large number of bird species will also be found in this sanctuary. The sanctuary is also known as the ‘Bharatpur of the East’ and has gained immense popularity over time due to the wildlife it has to offer.
