New Delhi: Newly elected Rajya Sabha MP from Assam Sarbananda Sonowal today took oath as a Rajya Sabha MP in the office of Upper House Chairman Venkaiah Naidu. Considering God as a witness, he took the oath of office and secrecy in Assamese language.
Minority Affairs Minister Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi, Rajya Sabha Secretary General P P K Ramacharyulu and other senior officials of the Rajya Sabha Secretariat were also present on the occasion of his swearing-in. It is noteworthy that Sonowal is the Minister of Ports, Shipping and Waterways and Ayurveda, Yoga and Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha and Homeopathy (AYUSH).
No other party had fielded its candidate against him. On September 27, he received his election certificate for the Rajya Sabha at the Assam Legislative Assembly Secretariat in the presence of Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Vishwa Sharma and other leaders.
